The Stand-Up Mam
The Stand-Up Mam is about one woman’s journey to happiness which is achieved by facing mistakes in her past and talking about it on stage, in front of strangers. She is supported by a mentor who encourages her to find her voice and personal success.
A bit about me
I’m married, have two grown-up children and live North East England, near the sea beside Sunderland.
My whole career was spent in PR. I worked on some fantastic projects including a time at Tyne Tees TV’s press office where I got to see The Tube filmed live. My last role was PR manager for the North East Chamber of Commerce where I handled media calls from all over the world, in particular about Brexit.
Here on my website you can read about my novels and what inspired them as well as interviews with some inspirational women who have great insights to share as well as funny stories about their families.
What people are saying
Funny and moving, this novel is a must-read for any woman who feels unseen, overlooked, or taken for granted. Georgie is a wonderful character and I cheered for her every step of the way!
— Stephanie Butland, author of 'Found In A Bookshop’
Funny and engaging, Stand Up Mam tells the story of middle class Northern mam Georgie.
It’s easy to see why Georgie’s family suggest she enters a stand up-comedy competition, her quips and inner thoughts are always funny and biting. But no one could anticipate the changes that follow her foray into the comedy world.
Georgie travels the country practicing her routine while at home her family changes in ways she could never have predicted. Long hidden secrets are uncovered, for better or worse.
Stand Up Man is touching and hopeful in equal measure and will give you a whole new appreciation of the souls who brave the comedy club circuit.
— Marie Ashurst
I’d never come across a book about a female comedian before and it was inspiring to read about a woman taking on a new challenge. I felt invested in the characters from the outset and it was intriguing to see the main character grow and develop over the course of the story. This book certainly made me laugh and it was interesting to gain an insight into the world of comedy. There were also many scenes which made me feel sad and emotional. It was a really enjoyable read.
— Amanda Sandbach
Georgie is a very believable character. Many mums will empathise with a lot of her feelings about her family. We all feel ignored and invisible at times, and Georgie has a way of dealing with that that will have the reader laughing and crying along with her all the way.
